WORD WORKS ANNOUNCES
2008 Washington Prize Schedule Change
The Word Works will announce the winner of the 2008 Washington Prize in August this year. The final judging has been delayed to accommodate unforseen travel by some of the final judges.
2008 HILARY THAM CAPITAL COLLECTION TITLE: BY THE NEST by KATHI MORRISON-TAYLOR
The Word Works is pleased to announce that Kathi Morrison-Taylor's manuscript By the Nest has been selected for publication in the Hilary Tham Capital Collection series. This collection looks at the trials and miracles of family. We expect publication this fall. Morrison-Taylor's poems have appeared in Southern Poetry Review, Stand, Seattle Review, and New York Quarterly. Recent honors include winning the 2008 Moving Words contest in Arlington, VA. This is her first book.
By the Nest is available for advance purchase.
2008 JOAQUIN MILLER CABIN POETRY SERIES
The Word Works is pleased to announce the 2008 Joaquin Miller Cabin Poetry Series beginning June 3 with Barbara Crooker and Anne Higgins. Thanks to all who applied. The quality of the submissions was outstanding and so the panel had a hard job deciding who would be invited this year. The 2008 flyer is being sent out to those who applied and to our membership list. Heartfelt thanks to all who contributed to the Miller Cabin fund to make these eight programs possible. Join our electronic news group to get more details about the readers and a reminder of the upcoming readings.
2008 JACKLYN POTTER YOUNG POETS
The Young Poets Competition director W. Perry Epes announces that Will Frazier of Episcopal High School and Megan Hauptman of H-B Woodlawn Program are the 2008 winners of the Jacklyn Potter Young Poets Competition. Both are 10th graders. Teri Cross-Davis, who runs poetry programs at the Folger Shakespeare Library, served as this year's judge.
As part of their prize award, these winners will re ad in the Word Works Joaquin Miller Cabin Poetry Series on June 10 along with Diane Lockward, What Feeds Us, winner of the
2006 Quentin R. Howard Poetry Prize.
